**Moniak’s Rare Walk-Off Triple Stuns Cubs, Rockies Avoid Sweep**

**DENVER, CO –** In a dramatic turn of events at Coors Field on Sunday, Mickey Moniak etched his name into baseball lore with a rare walk-off triple, securing a 6-5 victory for the Colorado Rockies over the Chicago Cubs and preventing a season sweep.

The ninth-inning heroics began with a single from Ryan Ritter. Moniak, entering the game as a defensive replacement in the eighth, then stepped up to the plate and launched a 1-1 slider from Cubs closer Daniel Palencia into the right-field corner. As Ritter raced around the bases to score the winning run, Moniak slid into third, emphatically ensuring he touched the base amidst the roar of the home crowd.

“I was going to make sure I touched third base, just in case,” Moniak said.

The walk-off triple was Moniak’s second walk-off RBI of his career and his second triple in as many days, but marked his first walk-off triple at any level. It also marked the second walk-off triple in the Majors this year, with Palencia becoming the first pitcher since 1969 to allow multiple walk-off triples in a single season.

The game was a rollercoaster of emotions. Rookie pitcher Tanner Gordon delivered a stellar performance, striking out a career-high nine batters and holding the Cubs to two runs over six innings. However, a three-run homer from Ian Happ in the eighth inning erased the Rockies’ lead and threatened to complete the Cubs’ sweep.

Despite the setback, the Rockies rallied, with Moniak’s clutch hit silencing the visiting Cubs fans and igniting the home crowd.

“That’s what we’re in the business for, to quiet the other crowd,” Moniak said. “It’s all part of the game. I enjoy it.”

The Rockies snapped the Cubs’ winning streak and avoided a winless season series against Chicago.
