Wed Sep 03 08:20:00 UTC 2025: **Gurugram Tackles Crippling Monsoon Floods with Intensive Civic Drive**

**GURUGRAM, September 2, 2025** – Following widespread public outrage over severe waterlogging during the recent monsoon season, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has launched an intensive drive to overhaul the city’s crumbling infrastructure and improve civic services. The move comes after heavy rains in July left many areas submerged, triggering criticism of the local administration.

MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya revealed a multi-pronged approach, including identifying 40 critical waterlogging areas, cracking down on stray cattle and illegal hoardings, and significantly increasing the processing of construction and demolition (C&D) waste. The city’s only C&D waste processing plant in Basai has been mandated to increase its daily intake from 300 to 1,200 tonnes, aiming to clear an estimated six lakh tonnes of illegally dumped rubble from sites across Gurugram, including Sector 29 and the Gurugram-Faridabad road.

“We have already lifted around 22,000 tonnes of illegally dumped rubble from Sector 29 and transported to the Basai plant. Similarly, around 5,000 tonnes have been lifted from the Gurgaon-Faridabad road” Mr. Dahiya said.

To address the city’s solid municipal waste (SMW) issues, the MCG is increasing its waste collection vehicle fleet from 200 to 311 while awaiting the completion of a tendering process for door-to-door collection. A long-term solution also includes the planned installation of a waste-to-energy plant, which has already secured environmental clearance.

The drive also targets the stray cattle menace, with 457 bovines rounded up and owners facing fines of ₹25,000 for the first offense and ₹50,000 for repeat offenses. An average of 700 illegal hoardings are being removed daily as part of the campaign.

Commissioner Dahiya assured that efforts are underway to expedite waterlogging clearance and that the 40 identified critical points will be addressed by April next year. Further improving responsiveness, the MCG has also stationed an officer at the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority’s public helpline to promptly address civic-related complaints.
