Wed Sep 03 02:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Thomas’ Historic Triple-Double Powers Mercury Past Sparks

**LOS ANGELES** – Alyssa Thomas etched her name further into WNBA history Tuesday night, recording a single-season record seventh triple-double to lead the Phoenix Mercury to a 92-84 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks. Thomas finished with 12 points, a staggering 16 rebounds, and 15 assists, securing her 18th career triple-double with under three minutes left in the game.

The performance breaks Thomas’ own record of six triple-doubles in a single season, set in 2023. “I think this has been my game my entire career,” Thomas said after the game, crediting her teammates for hitting their open shots.

Adding to the historic night, Thomas became the first player in WNBA history to post at least 10 points, 15 rebounds, and 15 assists in a game. She also achieved the unprecedented feat of recording at least 12 rebounds and 15 assists in consecutive games, a first in both WNBA and NBA history. Notably, she achieved this while battling an illness.

Despite a slow start, with only one point at halftime, Thomas dominated the second half, securing her sixth triple-double in the month of August alone. No other player in WNBA history has achieved more than one triple-double in a calendar month or more than four in their career.

“She’s just too tough to guard,” teammate Kahleah Copper commented. “You really want to take away her vision because she can pass. And then, it’s a matchup problem every night.”

Satou Sabally led the Mercury in scoring with 19 points, while Copper added 18 and Sami Whitcomb contributed 17. Dearica Hamby led the Sparks with 25 points, followed by Rickea Jackson’s 21 and Kelsey Plum’s 20.

With the win, the Phoenix Mercury (23-14) moved into sole possession of fourth place in the WNBA standings, surpassing the New York Liberty. The Sparks fell to 17-19.
