**Bangalore University to Offer 24/7 Free WiFi, Boost Security with CCTV**

**Bengaluru, September 3, 2025:** Bangalore University (BU) is set to significantly enhance the learning environment and security on its Jnanabharati campus with the introduction of 24/7 free WiFi for all students and the installation of CCTV cameras.

The initiative, funded by a substantial ₹100 crore grant under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA) scheme, addresses the growing need for online access, particularly among students from rural and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. With the increasing emphasis on digital education and competitive exam preparation, the university recognizes the importance of providing free and readily available internet access.

“Most of the students are from rural areas, and come from economically and socially backward families. They don’t have enough money to spend on internet. Therefore, the university has decided to provide 24/7 free WiFi to all students,” said a BU spokesperson.

In addition to improved internet access, BU is also prioritizing the safety and security of its students. The vast Jnanabharati campus, encompassing 1,192 acres and home to over 4,500 students, faces challenges such as sandalwood theft, fire accidents, encroachment, and road accidents due to the two major roads that traverse the grounds.

“The safety of students is a priority for us. In this context, it has been decided to install CCTV cameras at key locations on the Jnanabharati campus,” stated Vice-Chancellor M.S. Jayakara. The CCTV project is currently awaiting final approval at the university syndicate meeting.

The combined initiatives of free WiFi and enhanced surveillance are expected to provide a more secure and academically enriching experience for students at Bangalore University.
