Wed Sep 03 10:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Southern Wisconsin Braces for Cooler Temperatures, Midweek Storms After Comfortable Start to Week
**MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -** Southern Wisconsin residents can enjoy a calm and sunny Labor Day Monday, but a significant shift in weather is on the horizon. After a comfortable Sunday evening, the National Weather Service is predicting patchy fog development overnight, particularly west of Madison and near the Kettle Moraine. Motorists are advised to exercise caution during late night and early morning commutes.
Monday promises mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s following the dissipation of any early morning fog. Similar conditions are expected Monday night, with the possibility of more patchy fog.
Tuesday will be the warmest day of the week, with temperatures nearing 80 degrees under mostly sunny skies. However, this warm stretch will be short-lived.
A strong cold front is expected to move into the region Tuesday night into Wednesday, bringing a good chance of showers and thunderstorms. While heavy rainfall is not expected, the system possesses enough energy to generate thunderstorms as it passes.
The most significant impact of the front will be a dramatic drop in temperatures. Highs on Thursday and Friday are forecast to be in the 50s and low 60s, with morning lows potentially dipping into the 40s, and even the upper 30s in colder valleys.
Temperatures are expected to slowly rebound by the weekend, returning closer to 70 degrees by Saturday and Sunday.
