Mon Sep 01 18:40:00 UTC 2025: ## 49ers Deny Trade Request from WR Jauan Jennings Amid Injury Concerns
**SANTA CLARA, Calif.** – Despite lingering uncertainty surrounding his calf injury and a reported trade request, the San Francisco 49ers have made it clear: wide receiver Jauan Jennings is staying put. General Manager John Lynch confirmed on Wednesday that Jennings requested a trade, but the team has no intention of granting it.
“He asked for it and we’ve moved on,” Lynch told reporters. “We’re not doing that. So, we’re moving forward.”
The news comes amidst speculation regarding Jennings’ future with the team, particularly after ESPN reported in July that he sought a lucrative contract extension or a trade. Jennings is entering the final year of his contract, counting $4.258 million against the cap.
Jennings hasn’t practiced since July 27th after suffering the calf injury, leaving his availability for the Week 1 opener against the Seattle Seahawks in doubt. While Lynch acknowledged Jennings’ injury, he also confirmed the validity of the contract extension request.
Head Coach Kyle Shanahan downplayed any potential negative impact on team chemistry. “That has to do with business decisions and the business decisions people make,” Shanahan said.
The 49ers’ refusal to trade Jennings echoes similar situations in the past with players like Robbie Gould, Deebo Samuel, and Raheem Mostert, where the team ultimately opted to work out contract extensions or incentives rather than grant a trade.
The situation highlights the urgency for the 49ers to get Jennings back on the field. Following recent roster cuts, the team has a limited number of healthy receivers. To address this, the 49ers signed veteran Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a one-year deal and are planning to bring back veteran Russell Gage Jr.
“Jauan is still working through his calf issue, making progress,” Lynch stated. “We’re kind of like everyone else, hopeful but not sure on Week 1, and we’ll proceed as such.”
The 49ers also placed wideout Jacob Cowing on injured reserve, re-signed punter Thomas Morstead, claimed defensive tackle Jordan Jefferson, and waived defensive tackle Evan Anderson. Shanahan expressed optimism about the return of several other key players for the Seahawks game, including Dominick Puni, Yetur Gross-Matos, Ben Bartch, and Upton Stout.
