**Chennai, India – September 2, 2025 -** A low pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal, as of 5:30 a.m. today, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai. The system is expected to intensify over the next 24 hours and is very likely to move west-northwestward across Odisha during the subsequent 24 hours.

The low pressure area is a result of an upper air cyclonic circulation over the northeast Bay of Bengal and the adjacent Myanmar coast.

In the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 a.m. today, several areas in Tamil Nadu and neighboring districts experienced significant rainfall. Namakkal recorded the highest rainfall at 5 cm. Other notable rainfall amounts include Devala in The Nilgiris (4 cm), and Upper Gudalur, Glenmorgan, Gudalur Bazar, Wood Braiyar Estate, Harisan Malayalam Ltd, Mudukulatur in Ramanathapuram district, Erode and Nannilam in Thiruvarur district, which recorded 3 cm each. Other districts experienced 2 cm of rain.
