Mon Sep 01 23:50:00 UTC 2025: **Dodgers Reunite with Veteran Heaney, Bolster Roster for Playoff Push**
**LOS ANGELES** – The Los Angeles Dodgers have added a familiar face to their pitching ranks, agreeing to a deal with left-hander Andrew Heaney. MLB Network Insider Jon Heyman first reported the signing on Monday. The club has not yet confirmed the deal.
The move comes just before Monday’s noon ET deadline, making Heaney eligible for postseason play with the Dodgers. This isn’t Heaney’s first stint in Dodger Blue; he previously pitched for Los Angeles in 2022, posting an impressive 3.10 ERA across 16 appearances.
Heaney, 34, was recently released by the Pittsburgh Pirates after struggling to regain his early-season form. After posting a 3.33 ERA in his first 14 starts, his ERA ballooned to 9.21 since June 19, leading to his demotion to the bullpen.
In addition to the Heaney signing, the Dodgers also activated utility man Hyeseong Kim and right-handed reliever Michael Kopech from the injured list as active rosters expanded to 28 players on Monday.
Kim, who was batting .304 before a shoulder injury, offers versatility at second base, center field, and potentially left field. Kopech, returning from knee surgery, provides a boost to the Dodgers’ bullpen as they enter the final stretch of the regular season.
The Dodgers’ rotation is in solid condition, this move appears to be a depth signing for the Dodgers. While Heaney’s role with the Dodgers remains unclear, he is more likely to be used as a reliever, if he makes it to the big league level. The Dodgers’ bullpen has been heavily utilized this season, leading the Majors in innings pitched, but has seen inconsistent results.
While Heaney’s potential impact on the Dodgers’ postseason roster is uncertain, he provides valuable insurance as the team aims for another World Series run.
