Two other devotees were injured in the incident.

The deceased have been identified as Kadiyam Dinesh (9), Guruju Murali (40), Tirumala Narasimha Murthy (36) and Evana Suryanarayana (50), all residents of Thoorputhalla and reportedly members of the same family. K. Prasad and B. Pavan Kumar, the injured, are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.

According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred when a tractor, carrying devotees, was being driven by a minor. Narsapuram Deputy Superintendent of Police G. Sriveda stated that the original driver, E. Raju, had briefly left the vehicle to get water, at which point the minor took the wheel.
