Sun Aug 31 07:00:00 UTC 2025: **Sri Lanka Snatch Victory from Zimbabwe in Thrilling ODI Opener**

**Pallekele, Sri Lanka** – In a nail-biting finish, Sri Lanka defeated Zimbabwe by 7 runs in the first ODI of their series. Dilshan Madushanka emerged as the hero for the home side, claiming a hat-trick in the final over to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Zimbabwe’s chase looked promising, spearheaded by Sikandar Raza’s valiant 92 and a crucial partnership with Tony Munyonga. However, Madushanka’s late heroics, including the crucial wicket of Raza, turned the tide in Sri Lanka’s favor.

“Amazing game of cricket,” said Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka. “Fought till the end, that kind of cricket.”

Zimbabwe started poorly, losing two wickets in the first over, but a strong 118-run stand between Ben Curran and Sean Williams steadied the ship. Williams, reflecting on the loss, admitted a “bad decision” on his part cost his team the game.

Madushanka, named Player of the Match, expressed his satisfaction with his performance, emphasizing the team’s plan for executing in the death overs. His final over saw him dismiss Raza, Brad Evans, and Richard Ngarava in quick succession, sealing the victory for Sri Lanka.

The second ODI will be held at the same venue on August 31st.
