**Ernakulam Rural Police Bust Drug Smuggling Operation, Arrest Two Youths with Suspected MDMA**

*KOCHI, August 31, 2025* – The Ernakulam Rural police have apprehended two individuals from Kottayam for allegedly smuggling a significant quantity of suspected synthetic drugs from Bengaluru. The arrests took place in Angamaly following a high-speed chase.

Anijith Kumar, 24, of Athirampuzha, and Ajmal Shah, 28, of Erattupetta, were taken into custody by a joint operation involving the Angamaly police and the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force. The accused were residents of Aluva.

Police sources confirm the seizure of over 200 grams of suspected MDMA from the vehicle the suspects were traveling in. According to District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) M. Hemalatha, the operation was initiated based on a tip-off. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle in Karayamparambu, but the suspects reportedly fled, leading to a pursuit that ended at TB Junction, Angamaly. The suspected contraband was allegedly discovered hidden within the car.

This arrest follows a recent raid on a spa in Muttom, Aluva, where police seized 24 grams of suspected MDMA and over 600 grams of suspected ganja. Two individuals operating the spa were also arrested in connection with that case.

The investigation team involved in the current operation included Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) (Narcotic Cell) P.J. Umeshkumar, DySP (Aluva) T.R. Rajesh, Angamaly inspector A. Ramesh, and sub-inspector Pradeep Kumar.
