Sun Aug 31 01:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Godavari River Floods Devastate Telangana Districts, Triggering Evacuations and Crop Damage

**Adilabad/Kamareddy, Telangana -** Flooding along the Godavari River has caused widespread disruption across several districts in Telangana, inundating homes, businesses, and agricultural land. Nirmal, Mancherial, and Kamareddy districts are bearing the brunt of the heavy rainfall and increased water releases from upstream reservoirs in Maharashtra.

In Nirmal district, the popular pilgrimage town of Basara has been severely affected, with lodges and shops near the temple submerged, deterring devotees. Collector Abhilasha Abhinav surveyed the damage, noting the “unprecedented” water levels flowing under the Basara bridge. She assured farmers of compensation for damaged crops after inspecting fields in Bidralli village. Residents of low-lying areas have been urged to remain vigilant, and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are stationed in the district. Patients at the Mother and Child Care Centre have been evacuated, and 27 families were moved to rehabilitation camps.

Mancherial district is also grappling with rising water levels. Collector Kumar Deepak assessed the situation in College Road. Officials estimate that the Yellampelli project is receiving inflows of approximately eight lakh cusecs. Heavy rainfall in Maharashtra is leading to significant releases from the Sri Ram Sagar and Kadam projects, further exacerbating the situation.

Kamareddy district has seen significant property damage, with Collector Ashish Sangwan visiting GR Colony, one of the worst-hit areas. Forty-eight houses were damaged, and affected families have been provided with immediate relief, including cash assistance, utensils, and relief kits. Efforts are underway to restore power supply. Families affected by a house collapse in Tadwai mandal will also receive financial aid.

Road connectivity has been severely impacted across the affected districts. A portion of the Hyderabad road near GR Colony in Kamareddy town has been damaged, and the Yellareddy-Lingampet road remains impassable. Even the historic Pocharam Project, built 103 years ago, faced a challenge as inflows reached 1.8 lakh cusecs, more than double its discharge capacity. The project managed to hold, preventing further devastation.

Authorities are focusing on sanitation measures to prevent disease outbreaks in the flood-affected areas. Further updates will be provided as the situation continues to evolve.
