Sun Aug 31 00:50:00 UTC 2025: **Telangana Govt. to Implement 42% BC Reservations in Local Body Elections**

**Hyderabad, August 31, 2025** – The Telangana government is preparing to implement 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in upcoming local body elections. The cabinet has decided to re-introduce two amendment bills in the Legislative Assembly on Sunday to remove the 50% cap on total reservations, paving the way for the increased quota.

The decision comes as the deadline set by the High Court to complete the local body elections by September 30th nears. The state government says it will issue a separate order implementing the 42% reservation for BCs in rural and urban local bodies.

In other decisions, the cabinet proposed Professor Kodandaram and Mohammed Azharuddin as MLCs under the Governor’s quota. They also discussed rain and flood damage that occurred recently and asked district collectors to prepare reports for damage assessment. The Chief Minister will review the situation with collectors and ministers on Monday, September 1st.

Additionally, the cabinet approved the establishment of the Telangana State Goshala Welfare Board to improve the management of cow shelters in the state.

Ministers have also warned rice millers who have not paid their dues for paddy procured in 2022-23 and have ordered them to pay them within three weeks or face legal action.

The government is seeking cooperation from all parties to ensure the passage of the bills in the Assembly.
