**Tendulkar Praises Root’s Potential to Break Record, Celebrates Pujara’s Career**

**New Delhi:** Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has lauded England’s Joe Root, acknowledging his potential to challenge Tendulkar’s own record for the most Test runs. Root currently stands second in the all-time list with 13,543 runs, trailing Tendulkar’s 15,921.

In a Reddit AMA, Tendulkar was asked about his thoughts on Root, who debuted against India in 2012. Tendulkar responded, “To have gone past 13000 runs is a remarkable achievement, and he’s still going strong. When I saw him for the first time in Nagpur in 2012 during his debut Test, I told my teammates that they were watching the future captain of England. What impressed me most was the way he was able to assess the wicket and how he rotated the strike. I knew at that very moment that he would be a big player.”

Separately, Tendulkar also celebrated the career of Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara, who recently retired. Tendulkar praised Pujara’s contributions to the Indian team over his 15-year career, highlighting his calmness, courage, and love for Test cricket.

“Pujara, it was always reassuring to see you walk out at No.3. You brought calm, courage, and a deep love for Test cricket every time you played. Your solid technique, patience, and composure under pressure have been a pillar for the team,” Tendulkar wrote on social media.

Tendulkar specifically recalled Pujara’s pivotal role in India’s 2018-19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy victory in Australia, where Pujara scored 521 runs. “Out of many, the 2018 series win in Australia stands out, it wouldn’t have been possible without your incredible resilience and match-winning runs,” Tendulkar stated, wishing Pujara well for his future endeavors.
