**Supreme Court Upholds Quashing of Suicide Abetment Case in Delkar Death**

**New Delhi, August 18, 2025** – The Supreme Court of India refused to intervene on Monday in a case surrounding the death of former Dadra and Nagar Haveli MP Mohan Delkar, upholding a Bombay High Court decision to quash a suicide abetment case.

The case involved nine individuals, including Praful Khoda Patel, the Administrator of the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu and Lakshadweep. They were accused of contributing to Delkar’s death in 2021. Delkar, a seven-term parliamentarian, was found dead in a Mumbai hotel room, leading to the initial FIR filed by Marine Drive police.

The FIR included charges of abetment to suicide, criminal intimidation, extortion, criminal conspiracy, and violations of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

However, the Bombay High Court deemed the FIR an abuse of the law and quashed the case in September 2022. A Bench of Chief Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice Vinod Chandran affirmed the High Court order. The Supreme Court’s decision effectively closes the case against the nine accused.
