**Mumbai, India** – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai for the second consecutive day, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds. This follows a weekend of intense rainfall that crippled the city and surrounding areas.
The orange alert, the third highest level in the IMD’s warning system, covers key areas including Borivali, Thane, Kalyan, and Navi Mumbai. While the intensity of rainfall is expected to be lighter than Saturday, with showers ranging from 5-15 mm per hour, overcast skies and strong winds are still anticipated.
Just days prior, Mumbai endured a severe downpour, prompting a red alert on Saturday. Some parts of the city recorded over 200 mm of rainfall, leading to widespread waterlogging and disruption of daily life. Tragically, two people died and two were injured in a landslide in Vikhroli. Local train services, a lifeline for Mumbai commuters, were severely impacted due to flooded tracks.
The IMD has also issued yellow alerts for several other districts across Maharashtra, including Nashik, Pune, and Satara, urging residents to remain vigilant.
While Sunday saw a respite with lighter rain and minimal waterlogging, the consecutive orange alerts indicate a continued risk of disruption due to the ongoing monsoon season. Residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
