Mon Aug 18 06:50:00 UTC 2025: **Diamondbacks’ Perdomo Defends Teammate Marte Amid Trade Rumors After Another Loss**

DENVER – Following a frustrating 6-5 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, Aug. 17, Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo interrupted manager Torey Lovullo’s postgame press conference with a passionate defense of his teammate, All-Star Ketel Marte.

Perdomo addressed recent reports suggesting Marte has caused internal frustration and rumors that the Diamondbacks may entertain trade offers for him in the offseason. “Please, he just wants to play baseball,” Perdomo said, speaking “as a brother.” “Just let the guy alone; it’s been too much for him.”

The emotional outburst came after Marte made the final out of a game where the Diamondbacks bullpen faltered, surrendering a lead in the seventh inning. Reliever Jake Woodford struggled, allowing four runs as the Rockies rallied to take the lead. Despite a late rally by Arizona, Marte’s game-ending pop-up sealed the team’s fate.

Manager Lovullo expressed frustration with the loss but praised Perdomo’s loyalty. “He steps up for his teammates,” Lovullo said. “It’s an awesome moment.”

Corbin Carroll and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. homered earlier in the game for Arizona, but the team ultimately fell short. The loss was particularly tough as the Diamondbacks (60-65) are fighting for a playoff spot.

Looking ahead, the Diamondbacks will return to Chase Field to face the Cleveland Guardians for a three-game series starting Monday, Aug. 18. Zac Gallen is scheduled to start Monday’s game against Gavin Williams. The Guardians, managed by former Diamondbacks catcher Stephen Vogt, are in the hunt for a wild card spot in the American League.
