Sun Aug 17 15:18:39 UTC 2025: ## BJP Nominates Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan for Vice President

**New Delhi:** The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has announced Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as its candidate for the upcoming Vice Presidential election. The announcement was made Sunday evening by BJP chief JP Nadda at a press conference, where he also expressed hope for a unanimous election and stated the party had reached out to opposition leaders.

Radhakrishnan, a veteran BJP leader with over four decades of experience, has served as the Governor of Maharashtra since July 2023, after previously serving as Governor of Jharkhand. He also held additional charge as the Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. Born in Tamil Nadu, the 68-year-old leader is a two-time Lok Sabha MP from Coimbatore and former Tamil Nadu BJP State President. During his tenure as Tamil Nadu BJP chief, he organized a 19,000 km ‘Ratha Yatra’ to advocate for issues such as river linking, anti-terrorism measures, and a uniform civil code.

Radhakrishnan, who holds a BBA degree from Chidambaram College in Coimbatore, is also known for his athletic pursuits, having been a college table tennis champion and long-distance runner.

The Vice Presidential post became vacant following the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar, with the Election Commission scheduling the election for September 9.
