**Hong Kong, August 18, 2024** – Hong Kong businessman and former ATV executive James Shing (盛品儒) has passed away at the age of 48 after a battle with liver cancer. Shing died peacefully at the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital at 00:37 this morning, surrounded by his family, according to a social media post by his wife, Taisa Choi (蔡一鳳).

Shing was diagnosed with liver cancer in June of this year, and his condition rapidly deteriorated, requiring extended ICU care. In her post, Choi described Shing as passing away with a smile and without pain, concluding his life peacefully. She mentioned that their twin children were often emotional and reluctant to leave his side during visits.

Prior to his passing, reports had circulated regarding Shing’s critical condition. Choi had previously acknowledged her husband’s struggle with the illness but declined to disclose specific details about his health. Unconfirmed reports indicated that Shing had been diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and had experienced significant weight loss.

Liver cancer is a significant health concern in Hong Kong. According to the Department of Health, it was the fifth most common cancer in the city in 2021, accounting for 4.6% of new cancer cases. In 2022, it was the third leading cause of cancer deaths in Hong Kong, claiming the lives of 1,412 people.

Health professionals recommend minimizing alcohol consumption and receiving hepatitis B vaccinations to reduce the risk of developing liver cancer. Doctors also warn against unhealthy lifestyle habits, including excessive alcohol consumption, poor diet, improper use of health supplements, consuming leftover foods, eating raw or undercooked foods, and irregular sleep patterns, which can all negatively impact liver health.
