Shing died peacefully at the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital at 00:37 this morning, surrounded by his family, according to a social media post by his wife, Taisa Choi (蔡一鳳).
Shing was diagnosed with liver cancer in June of this year, and his condition rapidly deteriorated, requiring extended ICU care. In her post, Choi described Shing as passing away with a smile and without pain, concluding his life peacefully. She mentioned that their twin children were often emotional and reluctant to leave his side during visits.
Prior to his passing, reports had circulated regarding Shing’s critical condition. Liver cancer is a significant health concern in Hong Kong. According to the Department of Health, it was the fifth most common cancer in the city in 2021, accounting for 4.6% of new cancer cases. In 2022, it was the third leading cause of cancer deaths in Hong Kong, claiming the lives of 1,412 people.
