**Mangaluru Police Save 75-Year-Old Man from Suicide Attempt**
**MANGALURU, August 5, 2025** – A 75-year-old man, Vishwanath Shetty, was rescued from a suicide attempt on the Pavanje bridge in Mulky on Monday, thanks to the quick response of the Mangaluru city police’s 112 emergency response support system (ERSS).
According to a police statement released today, a family member of Mr. Shetty, a resident of Mannagudda, contacted the Barke police after he failed to return home Monday morning. He had reportedly left, stating he was going to Kudroli temple. The Barke police immediately alerted the ERSS, who then dispatched the information to patrol vehicles throughout the city.
An ERSS patrol unit in Mulky received information regarding an individual acting suspiciously near the Pavanje bridge. Head constables Yogish and Kishore Kumar, along with constable Madhukar, rushed to the scene and successfully intervened, preventing Mr. Shetty from jumping from the bridge.
Upon questioning, Mr. Shetty revealed his distress stemmed from a skin ailment. Police contacted his family, and he was safely returned home.
This incident highlights the effectiveness of the city’s ERSS system in responding to emergencies and underscores the importance of community vigilance in preventing tragedies.
