**Teenager Found Dead in Thanjavur De-Addiction Center**

**TIRUCHIA, INDIA – August 5, 2025 (The Hindu)** – A 15-year-old boy was found dead Tuesday at a de-addiction and rehabilitation center for children in Thirukanurpatti, Thanjavur district. Police are investigating the death as a suspected suicide.

The boy, originally from Thirunageswaram in Kumbakonam and orphaned, had been placed in the center after a series of incidents. He was previously housed in a home in Thanjavur where he was a class IX student. Last month he escaped, and later attempted to break into a parked car. Following this incident, he was moved to the de-addiction center via the Child Welfare Committee.

“Police sources said the boy apparently was under stress and resorted to the extreme step of ending his life in the room,” a statement read.
