**CHICAGO, IL -** Wrigley Field, the iconic home of the Chicago Cubs, will host the 2027 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred announced Friday. The Midsummer Classic is scheduled for July 13, 2027, marking the fourth time the historic ballpark has been selected to host the prestigious event.
“The hard work put in to transform all of Wrigleyville into an outstanding destination deserves to be celebrated and shared on a national stage,” Manfred stated. He lauded the investment made by the Ricketts family, the city of Chicago, and the state of Illinois in revitalizing the ballpark and surrounding area, emphasizing it will be a “fantastic venue” for the All-Star celebration.
The Cubs initially approached MLB about hosting the event eight years ago, but faced hurdles including competition from other cities and safety concerns. Recent city ordinances allowing for wider sidewalks and removable bollards around the ballpark helped pave the way for the successful bid.
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, a self-proclaimed Cubs fan, hailed Wrigley Field as “the beating heart of the baseball world” and “a shining emblem of our nation’s favorite pastime.”
Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts, who lived in the Wrigleyville neighborhood during the last All-Star Game hosted at the stadium in 1990 but couldn’t afford to attend, expressed excitement for the upcoming event.
Wrigley Field will join Cleveland’s Municipal Stadium and the old Yankee Stadium as the only ballparks to host four All-Star Games. The city of Chicago will host the event for the eighth time, second only to New York City.
While the current collective bargaining agreement between MLB owners and players expires after the 2026 season, Commissioner Manfred expressed confidence that a work stoppage will be avoided, ensuring the game proceeds as scheduled. “My contingency plan is to make an agreement with the players and play the 2027 season,” he stated.
The 2026 All-Star Game will be held in Philadelphia, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of American independence.
