Sun Aug 03 23:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Tigers Claw Past Phillies Behind Skubal’s Dominance, Baez’s Big Day

**PHILADELPHIA** – The Detroit Tigers defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 7-5 on Saturday, fueled by a stellar performance from All-Star starter Tarik Skubal and a productive day at the plate from Javier Baez. Skubal earned his first win since June, limiting the Phillies to three runs over seven innings, while Baez went yard and drove in four runs.

Skubal (11-3) was electric early, striking out 10 and mowing down six of the first seven Phillies he faced. Meanwhile, the Tigers offense chipped away at Phillies ace Zack Wheeler. Colt Keith and Kerry Carpenter launched solo home runs in the third, followed by a two-run blast from Baez in the seventh, extending Detroit’s lead to 5-0.

The Phillies (62-48) attempted a comeback in the seventh, with Bryce Harper igniting the rally with a single, followed by a J.T. Realmuto double and a two-run home run by Nick Castellanos. However, Baez responded with a two-run double in the eighth to extend the lead to 7-3.

Harper blasted his 18th home run of the season off reliever Will Vest in the eighth, bringing the Phillies within two runs, but Kyle Finnegan slammed the door with a four-out save to seal the victory for the Tigers.

Wheeler (9-5) suffered the loss, allowing a season-high three home runs. Keith and Wenceel Perez each contributed three hits for the Tigers (65-47).

The game was punctuated by a spectacular defensive play from Tigers left fielder Riley Greene, who made a sliding catch on a deep foul ball off the bat of Kyle Schwarber in the sixth.

The series concludes Sunday, with veteran Charlie Morton pitching for Detroit against Cristopher Sanchez for Philadelphia.
