**Root Reaches 6,000 WTC Runs, Continues Record-Breaking Spree**

London – England’s Joe Root has etched his name further into cricket history, becoming the first player to surpass 6,000 runs in the World Test Championship (WTC). The milestone was achieved on Day Four of the Fifth Test against India at the Kennington Oval, as Root delivered another masterclass in batting.

The former England captain, known for his solid technique and elegant strokeplay, captivated the crowd with his performance. Root remained composed as England chased a target of 374, reaching his 6,000th run in his 69th Test appearance in the tournament.

With 20 centuries and 23 fifties, Root dominates the WTC run-scoring charts, well ahead of Steve Smith (4,278), Marnus Labuschagne (4,225), Ben Stokes (3,616), and Travis Head (3,300).

The 34-year-old celebrated his half-century with a modest acknowledgment to the dressing room, highlighting his focus on the team’s objective. Root also equaled Herbie Taylor’s record for most 50-plus scores against an opponent in home Tests, with 16 against India. Only Don Bradman has more, with 17 against England.

Root’s remarkable form throughout the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series has seen him break numerous records and set new benchmarks. He is now second on the all-time list of Test run-scorers, surpassing Ricky Ponting and Rahul Dravid, and is closing in on Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 15,921 runs. Root has also tied Kumar Sangakkara for the fourth-most Test centuries, with 38, behind Ponting (41), Jacques Kallis (45), and Tendulkar (51).
