**Lucknow, India** – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for several districts in Uttar Pradesh over the next two days as monsoon activity intensifies. Cities like Lucknow and Kanpur are expected to experience significant rainfall.

The IMD predicts that the movement of these cyclonic circulations will lead to increased monsoon activity across the state. Thunderstorms and lightning are expected from August 2nd to August 6th, with the possibility of very heavy rainfall in some areas on August 3rd and 4th. Lucknow is also likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall, potentially leading to a 2-4 degree Celsius drop in temperature.

A widespread area of eastern and western Uttar Pradesh is under alert for thunderstorms and lightning. Districts under a heavy rainfall warning include: Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Sant Ravidas Nagar, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Ballia, Gonda, Shravasti, Bahraich, Basti, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, and surrounding areas.

A broader region, including Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Hardoi, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Unnao, Lucknow, Barabanki, Raebareli, Amethi, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Ambedkar Nagar, and cities in the western and central parts of the state, as well as districts further west are also cautioned to be prepared for heavy rainfall.
