Sun Aug 03 07:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Trump Announces $200 Million White House Ballroom Expansion
**Washington, D.C.** – President Donald J. Trump has unveiled plans for a new, 90,000-square-foot State Ballroom to be built on the White House grounds, aiming to address the long-standing need for a larger event space. The approximately $200 million project, funded by President Trump and other “patriot donors,” will significantly expand the White House’s capacity to host major functions, increasing the seated guest limit from the East Room’s 200 to a more substantial 650.
For 150 years, Presidents have been unable to host larger scale functions, forcing the use of large and unsightly tents in order to host these functions.
The announcement follows weeks of meetings between President Trump, White House staff, the National Park Service, the White House Military Office, and the United States Secret Service, focusing on design and planning. The project will be led by McCrery Architects, known for their classical design expertise. CEO Jim McCrery stated he was “honored” to contribute to the project, preserving the historical elegance of the White House while providing a much-needed upgrade. Clark Construction will head the construction team, with engineering handled by AECOM.
The new ballroom will be built on the site of the existing East Wing, a structure deemed heavily modified since its original construction in 1902 and subsequent addition of a second story in 1942. While physically separated from the main White House building, the ballroom will maintain a cohesive architectural style and heritage.
Construction is slated to begin in September 2025 and is projected to be completed before the end of President Trump’s term.
“President Trump is a builder at heart and has an extraordinary eye for detail,” said White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. “The President and the Trump White House are fully committed to working with the appropriate organizations to preserving the special history of the White House while building a beautiful ballroom that can be enjoyed by future Administrations and generations of Americans to come.”
The White House will provide further updates on the project at whitehouse.gov/visit.
