Sun Aug 03 00:10:00 UTC 2025: **Pakistan Defeats West Indies in First T20, Adding to Caribbean Team’s Woes**
**Lauderhill, Florida** – Pakistan secured a 14-run victory over the West Indies in the opening T20 international match in Florida, adding to the home side’s recent struggles following a comprehensive series defeat to Australia. Pakistan’s win was fueled by a game-changing spell from Mohammad Nawaz, who took three crucial wickets in a single over.
Pakistan, after being put in to bat, posted a total of 178 for six, with Saim Ayub leading the charge with a well-constructed 57 off 38 balls. Ayub later said building partnerships was important as the pitch was challenging to play on. The West Indies’ response started steadily, with openers Johnson Charles and debutant Jewel Andrew putting on a 72-run stand. However, Nawaz turned the tide in the 12th over, dismissing Andrew (35), Charles (35), and Gudakesh Motie (0) in quick succession, leaving the West Indies reeling at 75-3. Skipper Shai Hope’s dismissal shortly after further compounded their problems.
Despite late hitting from Jason Holder (30 not out off 12 balls) and Shamar Joseph (21 off 12 balls), the West Indies ultimately fell short, finishing on 164-7. Shamar Joseph was the pick of the West Indies bowlers, taking 3-30 from his four overs. The defeat extends a difficult period for the West Indies, who recently suffered an 8-0 clean sweep at the hands of Australia in both Test and T20 series.
“We started strong and finished even better,” said Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha.
The second and third T20s of the series will be held in Lauderhill this weekend, followed by an ODI series in the Caribbean.
