**PUDUKOTTAI, August 3, 2025** – A 63-year-old fisherman from Thoothukudi district, identified as M. Malaisamy, died after accidentally falling into the sea late Saturday night. Malaisamy was aboard a mechanised boat that had set sail from Kottaipattinam fishing harbour in Pudukottai district on Saturday morning along with three other fishermen: Murugan, 53, Kumar, 53, and Murugan, 40.
According to Coastal Security Group sources, the incident occurred approximately 15 nautical miles off the coast while the men were fishing. Malaisamy fell overboard, and although his companions quickly rescued him and administered first aid, he succumbed to his injuries.
The other fishermen returned to shore with Malaisamy’s body on Sunday morning. The body has been sent to the mortuary of the Government Hospital in Manamelkudi for post-mortem examination.
