**Kozhikode, August 3, 2025** – Police in Sulthan Bathery, Wayanad district, Kerala, have launched an investigation into an alleged assault on a pastor by suspected Bajrang Dal activists. The suo motu case was registered on August 2nd after a video surfaced online showing the incident, which reportedly occurred on April 2nd, 2025.
The video allegedly depicts the pastor being accosted by a group of individuals who accused him of conducting door-to-door religious conversions. While the pastor, who represents a Pentecostal church, has yet to file a formal complaint, police are proceeding with the investigation.
Authorities are working to identify the individuals involved in the alleged attack. The case has been registered under Sections 192, 351(3), and Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
According to police sources, the pastor was allegedly threatened while attempting to invite children from a tribal settlement near Sulthan Bathery to a summer vacation camp. Investigators plan to record statements from members of the tribal community to gain further clarity on the events.
The incident comes amidst heightened political tensions in Kerala surrounding the arrest and imprisonment of two Catholic nuns in Chhattisgarh on charges of alleged forcible religious conversion and human trafficking. The Bajrang Dal and BJP activists have faced criticism for supporting the legal action against the nuns.
The investigation is ongoing.
