**Senior Army Officer Allegedly Assaults SpiceJet Staff at Srinagar Airport Over Baggage Dispute**

**Srinagar, August 3, 2025** – A senior Army officer is under investigation following allegations of a violent assault on four SpiceJet employees at Srinagar Airport on July 26, 2025. The incident, triggered by a dispute over excess baggage, reportedly left SpiceJet staff with serious injuries, including a spinal fracture and a broken jaw.

According to SpiceJet, the officer was carrying 16 kg of cabin baggage, exceeding the permitted 7 kg limit. When informed of the excess and asked to pay the relevant fees, the officer allegedly refused and forcibly entered the aerobridge, prompting intervention by a CISF official. Upon being escorted back to the gate, the situation escalated, with the officer allegedly launching a “murderous assault” on the airline’s ground staff.

“Our staff members suffered a spinal fracture and serious jaw injuries after being attacked with punches, repeated kicks,” a SpiceJet spokesperson stated. Reports indicate one employee lost consciousness and was further assaulted while on the ground.

SpiceJet has filed a First Information Report (FIR) with local police and has initiated the process to place the officer on the no-fly list. The airline has also submitted a formal complaint to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, urging appropriate action. CCTV footage of the incident has been handed over to the police.

“SpiceJet strongly condemns any act of violence against its employees and will pursue this matter to its fullest legal and regulatory conclusion,” the spokesperson added.

The Army has confirmed that it is aware of the allegations and has launched an internal probe into the incident.
