**Los Angeles, CA** – Jenna Ortega, star of Netflix’s hit series “Wednesday,” has opened up about the overwhelming fame she experienced following the show’s debut in 2022. Speaking to BBC culture correspondent Lizo Mzimba, Ortega expressed gratitude for the show’s resonance with audiences but admitted she was unprepared for the intense attention.

“Is anyone?” she responded when asked if she was ready for the fame. “No, I wasn’t.”

“Wednesday,” a series reimagining the iconic Addams Family through the eyes of their deadpan daughter, became Netflix’s most-watched English-language series after its release.

The highly anticipated second season, set to premiere with the first four episodes on August 6th and the remaining four on September 3rd, promises a deeper exploration of the Addams family dynamics. Netflix teases an increased presence of Morticia and Gomez Addams, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán, respectively, at Nevermore Academy, leading to new challenges for Wednesday.

Zeta-Jones hinted at a larger role for Morticia in the new season, allowing for a fuller exploration of the complex mother-daughter relationship. Ortega also highlighted this dynamic, stating, “It’s very typical for mother and daughter to butt heads… it’s very applicable to my experience as a teenager, and now.”

Season 2 also boasts new cast members, including Joanna Lumley as Wednesday’s grandmother Hester Frump, Steve Buscemi as Nevermore principal Barry Dort, and Billie Piper as head of music Isadora Capri.

Ortega, who also serves as an executive producer this season, acknowledged the three-year gap between seasons, but emphasized the patience of viewers, and said the wait allowed the “dust and debris to settle a little.”

“We do want to please them, but we want to do it in new and more exciting ways,” she said.

Ortega also suggested the show resonates because it explores how people find community in today’s world. “People don’t talk to each other in person,” she said. “They’re interacting and finding their community online, which can be very isolating.”

Zeta-Jones added that the Addams family are relatable because they embrace their idiosyncrasies, concluding that the family is “the ultimate modern family.”
