Fri Aug 01 07:23:01 UTC 2025: ## Trump Condemns “Disgusting” Russian Attacks on Kyiv, Zelenskyy Calls for “Regime Change” in Moscow
**Washington D.C. -** US President Donald Trump has strongly condemned Russia’s latest attacks on Kyiv, calling the military actions “disgusting” and threatening new economic sanctions. This comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a direct appeal to allies to pursue “regime change” in Moscow, arguing that Russia will continue to destabilize the region even after the war ends.
“Russia – I think it’s disgusting what they’re doing. I think it’s disgusting,” Trump told reporters on Thursday, reacting to the deadly strikes that killed at least 26 people, including three children, and injured 159 in the Ukrainian capital. He reiterated the threat of severe economic sanctions if Moscow does not cease hostilities by the end of next week. Trump also indicated he would send his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, to Russia next, despite previous efforts to mend ties with the Kremlin having stalled. Trump has previously mentioned the possibility of “secondary tariffs” targeting Russia’s trade partners, such as China and India, but such a move could cause significant disruption to international trade.
The attacks on Kyiv, which involved a barrage of drones and missiles, left a nine-storey apartment block in ruins. Zelenskyy, addressing a conference commemorating the Helsinki Accords, described the “unimaginable scale of terror and brutality” unleashed by Russia. He argued that only a change in leadership in Moscow could guarantee long-term stability in the region.
Meanwhile, Russia claimed to have captured Chasiv Yar, a strategically important town in eastern Ukraine, after months of intense fighting. Moscow has been intensifying its aerial attacks on Ukraine in recent months, defying US pressure to end the invasion, which began in February 2022.
