**Guwahati, August 1, 2025** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Assam on September 8th to inaugurate several key development projects and launch the year-long birth centenary celebrations of the legendary Bhupen Hazarika. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the visit today, highlighting the significant impact of the Prime Minister’s initiatives on the state’s progress.

The Prime Minister’s itinerary includes the dedication of the ₹4,200 crore bio-ethanol plant at Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) in Golaghat district to the nation. He will then proceed to Mangaldoi in Darrang district to inaugurate the Guwahati-Ring Road, a bridge connecting Kuruwa and Narengi over the Brahmaputra River, and lay the foundation stone for the Mangaldoi Medical College Hospital.

The day will culminate in Guwahati with the official inauguration of the Bhupen Hazarika birth centenary celebrations. The Chief Minister emphasized the eagerness of the Assamese people to welcome the Prime Minister and witness the launch of these vital projects.

“The morale of the people in the State is very high due to the various developmental projects that have been initiated,” stated Mr. Sarma. “We hope that in the next six months, the PM will inaugurate many of these projects.”

The Chief Minister attributed the success of these projects to the “liberal and generous funding” provided under the Prime Minister’s leadership and commended the state government for its effective utilization of central funds for public welfare.

The centenary celebrations will feature a grand function with 1,000 artists performing Hazarika’s renowned songs. The Chief Minister has directed the identification of 50 individuals who had close associations with the cultural icon to be invited to the event. A dedicated online portal has been launched for public registration to attend the function, with invitations to be issued by the Cultural Affairs Department by August 20th. The Prime Minister is also expected to launch a biography of Bhupen Hazarika at the event.

The state government is planning year-long celebrations across India, including Delhi, Mumbai, West Bengal, and Arunachal Pradesh, to honor Hazarika’s enduring legacy.
