Fri Aug 01 16:30:00 UTC 2025: ## LSU’s Fall Camp: Kicking Battle Heats Up, Offense Shows Promise

**Baton Rouge, LA – July 31, 2025** – The LSU Tigers continued their fall camp preparations Thursday, opening the first three periods of practice to the media at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility. Held indoors and in helmets, the session focused on special teams, offensive tempo, and defensive fundamentals.

The spotlight was particularly bright on the kicking competition. Senior placekicker Damian Ramos, paired with new holder Grant Chadwick and long snapper Jonathan Ferguson, experienced an up-and-down session, connecting from 44 yards but missing from 28 and 48. Sophomore Aeron Burrell, however, impressed with a successful 48-yard attempt, showcasing the powerful leg that saw him handle kickoff duties as a freshman. Burrell is expected to be Ramos’ heir apparent in 2026.

The offense displayed its potential during a hurry-up drill, rotating three units through a series of plays against air. Highlights included a 35-yard touchdown reception by Zavion Thomas, a touchdown catch by Barion Brown on a slant, and a touchdown screen pass to Chris Hilton. Quarterbacks Garrett Nussmeier, Michael Van Buren, and Colin Hurley all took snaps, with Van Buren connecting on a deep touchdown pass to Jelani Watkins.

Notably absent from the media viewing portion was receiver Aaron Anderson. Barion Brown stepped into his role with the first-team offense, alongside Hilton and Thomas.

On the defensive side, players ran a four-circuit drill focusing on blitzing techniques, tackling fundamentals, pursuit drills, and wrapping up.

The Tigers will return to the practice field on Friday for a closed session, with media access resuming Saturday morning for a full workout.
