Fri Aug 01 15:03:59 UTC 2025: ## Isak Eyes Anfield Switch: Liverpool Bid Rejected as Newcastle Fight to Keep Star Striker
**Newcastle, England** – Alexander Isak’s future at Newcastle United is in serious doubt as reports emerge of the Swedish striker desiring a move to Premier League rivals Liverpool. The Magpies have reportedly rejected Liverpool’s initial bid, rumored to be around £110 million plus add-ons, for the 25-year-old.
The news comes after Isak was spotted training at his former club, Real Sociedad, this week, fueling speculation about his intentions. Sources close to the player suggest Isak has informed Newcastle of his desire to leave St James’ Park this summer.
Liverpool’s interest in Isak has been long-standing, intensifying after the end of last season. New manager Arne Slot has already been active in the transfer market, securing the signatures of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt and Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. However, the Reds are clearly eager to further strengthen their attacking line as they aim to secure consecutive Premier League titles.
Newcastle, however, are determined to hold onto their prized asset. The club reportedly values Isak at £150 million and rebuffed Liverpool’s opening offer. Isak, who joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 for £60 million, enjoyed a stellar season, netting 23 Premier League goals and helping Newcastle qualify for the Champions League. He has three years remaining on his current contract.
Adding to the intrigue, Isak did not participate in Newcastle’s preseason tour of Asia, with the club citing a minor thigh injury. While Real Sociedad confirmed his presence at their training facility with his own trainers, the situation remains unclear.
Reports suggest Newcastle offered Isak a new deal with a release clause for next year, an offer he seemingly rejected in favor of a move now. Newcastle boss Eddie Howe remains defiant, stating, “He is still our player. He’s contracted to us. We, to a degree, control what is next for him. I would love to believe all possibilities are still available to us. My wish is that he stays, but that’s not in my full control.”
Liverpool have been big spenders this summer, already exceeding £250 million with the additions of Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, and Giorgi Mamardashvili, alongside Wirtz and Ekitike. Whether they will return with an improved offer for Isak remains to be seen as the transfer window progresses.
