**Karnataka Government Monitors Social Media Amid Dharmasthala Mass Burial Allegations**
**Bengaluru, August 1, 2025** – The Karnataka government is closely monitoring social media activity related to the alleged mass burials in Dharmasthala, following claims of mass murder, rape, and burials spanning two decades. Home Minister G. Parameshwara issued a warning today against those posting content that could incite unrest or division within society.
“We are watching it, and if in any way they are instigating feelings in the society, we will try to stop them,” stated Mr. Parameshwara. He cited past actions taken against communal postings in the Dakshina Kannada district, emphasizing the government’s commitment to curbing hate speech.
The allegations stem from an anonymous former sanitation worker who claims he was forced to bury numerous bodies, including women and minors, in Dharmasthala between 1995 and 2014. The worker has provided a statement to a magistrate, alleging signs of sexual assault on some of the remains.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Pronab Mohanty, has been established to investigate the claims. Mr. Mohanty, who currently serves as the Director General of Police (Internal Security Division) in Karnataka, met with the Home Minister today, prompting speculation that he may be replaced, as his name is under consideration for a position in the Union Government.
Mr. Parameshwara clarified that the meeting with Mr. Mohanty was unrelated to the Dharmasthala investigation. “He had come to inform me about it. Also, as the government is bringing rules regarding fake news, online gambling — Mohanty being the Internal Security Division head, had come to brief me about certain things ahead of the meeting in this regard today,” he explained.
The Home Minister emphasized that any decision to release Mr. Mohanty for Central Government duties rests with the Karnataka Government, which would respond to an official request from the Centre, should one be received.
The investigation into the Dharmasthala allegations is ongoing.
