**Kapur Family Feud Erupts at Sona Group, Control of Rs 30,000 Crore Empire at Stake**

**New Delhi, India** – A bitter family dispute has spilled into the public arena at the Sona Group, a Rs 30,000 crore automotive empire, with a fierce disagreement erupting over control of the company. The core of the conflict centers around Rani Kapur, the mother of the late Sunjay Kapur, and her claim to be a majority shareholder.

On Friday, Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd., the group’s flagship company, issued a statement declaring that Rani Kapur has not been a shareholder since 2019. This announcement came hours after Ms. Kapur penned a letter to the board, asserting her status as a majority shareholder and demanding the postponement of an Annual General Meeting (AGM).

In her letter, Rani Kapur alleged she was coerced into signing documents and questioned the appointment of certain individuals, including her daughter-in-law, Priya Sachdev Kapur, who she claims are falsely representing the family.

The company countered Ms. Kapur’s claims, stating that a declaration of significant beneficial ownership in 2019 identified Sunjay Kapur as the sole beneficial owner. Addressing the appointment of Priya Sachdev Kapur as a non-executive director, the company maintained that her nomination was properly reviewed and approved. The board also refuted Ms. Kapur’s claim about being forced to sign documents, asserting that no documents have been obtained from her since Sunjay Kapur’s passing.

Rani Kapur also accused unnamed “enemies” of attempting to usurp her family’s legacy while she mourned her son’s death and claims she wasn’t consulted over the nomination of Priya Sachdev Kapur as a representative of the Kapur family. She further alleged “gross illegalities” within the company.

The company stated it sought legal counsel before proceeding with the AGM, ultimately concluding that it could not defer the meeting based on legal advice and the fact that Rani Kapur is not a shareholder.

The internal family conflict has drawn significant attention due to the size and prominence of the Sona Group, the circumstances surrounding the death of Sunjay Kapur, and the dramatic accusations leveled by Rani Kapur. Sunjay Kapur, a prominent figure in the automotive industry, was previously married to Bollywood actress Karishma Kapoor.
