**Three Militants Arrested in Manipur Crackdown on Extortion**

**Imphal, July 26, 2025 (The Hindu)** — Security forces in Manipur have arrested three militants, including one woman, in a series of operations across Imphal West and Thoubal districts. The arrests, announced by police on Saturday, July 26th, 2025, targeted individuals involved in extortion activities linked to proscribed insurgent groups.

The detainees include Sorokhaibam Inaocha Singh (47), identified as an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG). Singh was apprehended at his residence in Salam Mamang Leikai, Imphal West district, on Thursday, July 24th. Authorities seized five extortion notes bearing the KCP (PWG) letterhead and two seal stamps from his possession.

Oinam Ranjita Devi (38), a woman cadre of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), was arrested at her residence in Oinam Sawombung, Thoubal district, on Friday, July 25th. Police reports indicate Devi was involved in extorting money from schools, shops, and businesses. Documents, including notebooks containing contact numbers of individuals targeted for extortion, were recovered.

The third individual, Ahanthem Surjit Singh (29), also an active PLA cadre, was arrested on Friday, July 25th, in the Leirongthel Pitra area of Thoubal district. Singh is accused of extortion and recruiting new members into the organization from the Thoubal region.

These arrests mark a significant development in the ongoing efforts to combat insurgency and maintain law and order in Manipur.
