Fri Jul 25 01:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Nepal Hit by Devastating Floods and Landslides, National Highways Blocked
**Kathmandu, Nepal -** Unprecedented heavy rainfall has triggered widespread floods and landslides across Nepal, severely disrupting daily life and causing the complete blockage of 11 national highways, officials reported Sunday. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast continued heavy rains nationwide until July 21st, prompting warnings for residents near major rivers to exercise extreme caution.
The most affected areas include eastern Nepal, where rivers like the Koshi, Tamor, and Arun are expected to experience significant rises in water levels. The Koshi River is predicted to reach or exceed danger levels. Similarly, the Bagmati River poses a flooding threat to the Kathmandu Valley and downstream regions, while the Mahakali River in western Nepal is also at high risk.
The districts of Baglung, Myagdi, Parbat, Syangja, Palpa, Nawalparasi, and Rupandehi are also bracing for potential impact along the Narayani river watershed. Moderate effects are anticipated in the Rapti and Babai regions in the west.
The blocked national highways include vital arteries such as the Koshi Highway, Mechi Highway, Tamor Corridor Road, and the Mid-Hill Highway. The Pasang-Lhamu Highway, Kali Gandaki Corridor, Jomsom-Lomanthang Road, Sahid Highway, Jajarkot-Dolpa Bheri Corridor, and the Mahakali Highway are also impassable due to landslides and flooding. Several other road sections are operating with one-way traffic only.
In response to the severe weather forecast, the Independent Power Producers Association, Nepal (IPPAN) has issued a high alert to all hydropower projects, urging them to take measures to minimize potential human and material losses over the next three days. Home Ministry officials are urging residents in vulnerable areas to heed warnings and take necessary precautions.
