Fri Jul 25 00:50:00 UTC 2025: ## A’s Rookie Nick Kurtz Earns Player of the Week After Blazing Start

**ARLINGTON** – Oakland A’s rookie Nick Kurtz, drafted fourth overall last year, has taken the league by storm, earning the American League Player of the Week Award. The honor comes after a scorching series against the Cleveland Guardians, where Kurtz batted .583 with a home run, four doubles, a triple, and four RBIs.

Kurtz’s impressive streak of multiple hits and extra-base hits in four consecutive games puts him in elite company, joining A’s legends Jose Canseco and Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx as one of the only players under 22 to accomplish the feat.

“That’s pretty cool to be part of the group with those two guys,” Kurtz said. “It felt great to put on a good show over the weekend.”

Manager Mark Kotsay praised Kurtz’s advanced approach at the plate, comparing his opposite-field power to Hall of Famers Barry Bonds and Jim Thome. Kurtz continued his power surge Monday night, hitting his 19th homer of the year, further solidifying his case for AL Rookie of the Year.

Currently, teammate Jacob Wilson is the favorite for the award, but Kurtz is close behind, creating the potential for an A’s 1-2 finish. While Kurtz acknowledges the excitement around individual accolades, he emphasizes the team’s overall development.

“Individual awards are good and all, but it’s not why we we play the game,” Kurtz stated. “We’re excited to keep going and keep improving.”

Kurtz and Wilson represent a talented young core emerging in Oakland, signaling a bright future for the A’s organization.
