Fri Jul 25 04:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Daughter Defends “Chespirito” Series Amidst Controversy with Florinda Meza
**Mexico City, Mexico** – The biographical series “Chespirito: Sin Querer Queriendo,” exploring the life of iconic Mexican comedian Roberto Gómez Bolaños, is facing criticism from Florinda Meza, Gómez Bolaños’ widow. Meza, without explicitly naming the show, took to Instagram to denounce alleged inaccuracies and “lies” depicted in the series, particularly concerning her relationship with Gómez Bolaños and his first wife, Graciela Fernández.
However, Paulina Gómez Fernández, daughter of Roberto Gómez Bolaños, is defending the series’ portrayal. In February, prior to the show’s release on MAX, she addressed concerns in a live stream, emphasizing that while the series is a fictionalized account, it is rooted in truth.
“We did a very careful job. All of us who participated paid a lot of attention to the details,” she stated. “There will be people who have conflicting viewpoints because we have to remember that it is fiction, not a documentary, it is a fiction told around his private life.”
Gómez Fernández acknowledged the necessity of condensing and conceptualizing aspects of the story, but insisted the core narrative remains accurate. “It’s not that we invented many things, they are things that are true, but they are told from the point of view of an author, which in this case is Roberto, my brother, and I,” she said.
In a later interview, she emphasized that the series focuses on “Roberto, Graciela, their children, and his work team,” adding that while not every event is “precisely exact,” the show is “impregnated with absolute truth.”
Gómez Fernández also addressed the sensitive issue of her father’s affair with Florinda Meza, stating that she has processed and healed from the situation through therapy. “I have been to many therapists. And when you open things up to so many people and see so many points of view, where all are valid. Why can my mind be tied to those beliefs? No, beliefs only do harm,” she commented.
When asked about the possibility of Meza creating her own biographical series to tell her side of the story, Gómez Fernández responded, “What could I say? Everyone wants to tell their story, and why shouldn’t she?”
The controversy highlights the complexities of portraying real-life figures and the differing perspectives of those closest to them, as “Chespirito: Sin Querer Queriendo” continues to draw both praise and criticism.
