Fri Jul 25 04:49:33 UTC 2025: **Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road: A Highway of Heartbreak**

**Hyderabad, July 25, 2025** – What was designed as a high-speed expressway intended to improve travel around Hyderabad, the Outer Ring Road (ORR), has become a deadly stretch of asphalt, claiming dozens of lives and leaving countless families devastated. Data reveals a disturbing trend of fatal accidents, particularly in the early morning hours, with negligence and reckless driving cited as major contributing factors.

The first four months of 2025 alone saw 31 people killed on the ORR. A recent tragic incident involved three young men, Deepesh Agarwal, Sanchay Malpani, and Priyanshu Mittal, who perished when their car crashed into a parked goods carrier. Deepesh was set to embark on a trip to Turkey just days later, while Sanchay was weeks away from pursuing his MBA in the U.S.

Statistics paint a grim picture. Between 2021 and 2024, the ORR saw over 200 deaths and hundreds of injuries. The 144.5-kilometer marker is now considered the deadliest point, with seven deaths and eight injuries reported.

While authorities have implemented trauma care centers and ambulance services, experts argue that these measures are insufficient. Road safety advocates point to flawed road design, inadequate enforcement, poor signage, and a lack of driver training as key issues. Speeding, drunk driving, and the misuse of road shoulders further exacerbate the problem.

Experts are calling for stricter surveillance, better signage, and physical deterrents, especially during off-peak hours. They also emphasize the need for regular safety audits and a focus on driver education. Until these issues are addressed, the ORR will likely continue to be a source of heartbreak for many families in Hyderabad.
