**Bhubaneswar, July 25, 2025** – Odisha is preparing for days of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall as a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a significant depression. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘red warning’ for isolated locations in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts, indicating the potential for extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 21 cm today, July 25th.

An ‘orange warning’ has also been issued for ten other districts, forecasting very heavy rainfall over the coming days (July 26-28). The IMD bulletin states that light to moderate rainfall is expected across most of Odisha.

The depression is expected to move west-northwestwards, crossing West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coasts before moving across Gangetic West Bengal and North Odisha and Jharkhand.
