**CHENNAI, July 24, 2025** – The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) concluded a two-day capacity building program in Chennai aimed at equipping engineers from the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) with the knowledge to effectively implement Indian Standards in their work.
The initiative, part of BIS’s ongoing efforts to promote the adoption of national standards within government departments, focused on key operational areas for TNUHDB, including urban planning, water systems, and sanitation. The program curriculum included topics such as urban land development and sustainability regulations, the application of geospatial technologies in resource management, and standards for piped drinking water systems.
Meenakshi Ganesan, Deputy Director General (Southern Region) of BIS, stated that the training would enable engineers to integrate Indian Standards into project design and implementation, ultimately improving the quality and sustainability of urban development projects across Tamil Nadu.
