Netflix’s new series “The Hunting Wives,” based on May Cobb’s novel, has captivated viewers with its tale of suburban secrets, affairs, and a shocking murder. However, fans of the book are in for a surprise, as the show deviates significantly from the original story, culminating in a finale packed with unexpected twists.

The series centers on Sophie O’Neil (Brittany Snow), a recent Boston transplant who becomes entangled with Texan socialite Margo Bank (Malin Akerman). After teenager Abby Jackson (Madison Wolfe) is found murdered, suspicion falls on various characters. In a surprising turn of events, Margo is revealed to be the killer, having shot Abby in a drunken rage after she threatened to expose her affair with Margo’s son, Brad (George Ferrier).

The series takes a darker turn when Sophie, while driving under the influence, runs over Margo’s brother Kyle (Michael Aaron Milligan), who has threatened her. Instead of reporting the incident, Sophie pushes his body over a cliff, solidifying her descent into moral ambiguity.

The show also sees the demise of other key characters, including Pastor Pete (Paul Teal), Abby’s mother Starr (Chrissy Metz), and Brad’s mother, Jill (Katie Lowes), leading to a high body count by the end of the season.

This ending stands in stark contrast to the novel, where Jill is revealed as Abby’s killer and also murders Margo. In the book, Sophie chooses a path of healing and ends her relationship, a far cry from her actions in the Netflix adaptation.

While Netflix has not yet confirmed a second season, Malin Akerman has expressed enthusiasm for continuing the story, leaving fans eager to see where the drama will lead next.
