Wed Jul 23 22:10:00 UTC 2025: ## News Article: Rajasthan Aims for Green Energy Revolution with New City Gas Distribution Plan
**Jaipur, July 24, 2025** – The Rajasthan government, under the Bharatiya Janata Party, is spearheading a push towards green energy with the formulation of a comprehensive five-year action plan for expanding city gas distribution (CGD) infrastructure. This follows the recent release of the state’s CGD policy, designed to promote the use of piped natural gas (PNG) for domestic use and compressed natural gas (CNG) across the state.
The initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions, align with national petroleum and natural gas sector targets, and provide a cleaner, safer energy alternative to traditional fossil fuels. According to Principal Secretary (Mines & Petroleum) T. Ravikanth, the state is targeting 125,000 new households connected to PNG and 89 new CNG stations commissioned within the current fiscal year.
The CGD policy simplifies regulatory procedures and ensures timely permissions for agencies involved in expanding gas networks in urban and rural areas. District-level committees are also being established to address coordination issues.
“The CGD policy has made the provisions for issuing timely permissions to the agencies. District level committees have also been formed for addressing the issues and ensuring a better coordination,” stated Mr. Ravikanth.
A dedicated web portal is being developed by the Department of Information Technology to facilitate execution, coordination, and monitoring of the project. The plan includes the laying of approximately 2,000 km of new pipelines in eight cities, including Jaipur, this year.
Rajasthan State Gas Limited Managing Director Ranveer Singh highlighted the CGD policy’s potential to create a sustainable gas-based ecosystem and bolster infrastructure development for participating institutions.
The move towards widespread PNG connections for households will be followed by similar efforts in industrial areas, demonstrating the government’s commitment to promoting natural gas usage. This initiative signals a significant step towards a cleaner energy future for Rajasthan.
