Thu Jul 24 09:00:00 UTC 2025: **Mets Rally Late to Defeat Angels 7-5, Alvarez Delivers in Return**
NEW YORK – The New York Mets mounted a comeback victory against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night, winning 7-5 after overcoming an early four-run deficit. The Mets’ resurgence was fueled by a clutch performance from Juan Soto, who tied the game with a single in the seventh, and Francisco Alvarez, who blasted a key double in his return from the minor leagues.
Brett Baty contributed a two-run homer earlier in the game, setting the stage for the late-inning heroics. The Mets took the lead in the eighth inning when an error by Angels catcher Logan O’Hoppe allowed Baty to score. Brandon Nimmo added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly.
Reliever Brooks Raley earned his first win since April, pitching a scoreless eighth inning. Edwin Díaz closed out the game with a dominant ninth, striking out the Angels’ 2-3-4 hitters to secure his 20th save of the season.
The Angels jumped out to an early lead, with Taylor Ward driving in three runs against Mets ace Kodai Senga, who struggled and lasted only three innings. O’Hoppe, a Long Island native, also homered for the Angels.
While the Mets celebrated the victory, shortstop Francisco Lindor continued to struggle, going 0-for-5 and extending his hitless streak to 26 at-bats. Angels starter Tyler Anderson remains winless in his last 16 starts.
The two teams will face off again Tuesday night, with Kyle Hendricks pitching for the Angels and Frankie Montas taking the mound for the Mets.
