Thu Jul 24 01:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Hawaii Weather: Breezy Trades Continue with Increased Shower Chances This Week
**Honolulu, HI** – The Hawaiian Islands are expected to experience moderate to breezy trade winds through Thursday, with a chance of increased showers as early as Thursday night into Saturday. A high-pressure ridge north of the islands is maintaining the consistent trade wind pattern, but an approaching upper-level low promises wetter conditions.
Tonight, expect mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers. Lows will range from the mid-60s in the valleys to the mid-70s near the shore. Winds will be out of the northeast at 10-20 mph.
Thursday will bring partly sunny skies with scattered showers, particularly in the morning. Highs will range from the mid-70s to upper 80s. Winds will continue to be breezy from the east at 10-20 mph.
The National Weather Service anticipates an increase in shower activity beginning Thursday night as a weak upper-level low develops northwest of Kauai. This, combined with an area of low-level moisture moving from east to west, will likely bring scattered showers, primarily to windward and mountain areas, but potentially spilling over to leeward sides of smaller islands.
Rainfall totals are expected to remain between 0.10 and 0.50 inches, with higher amounts in terrain-favored locations. There is even a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms developing north and west of Kauai.
A gradual return to typical summertime, stable trade wind weather is expected Sunday into early next week as the upper-level low weakens and moves away.
**Small Craft Advisory:** A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect for windy areas around Maui County and the Big Island through Thursday at 6 PM HST.
**Surf:** Surf along east-facing shores will remain rough and choppy due to the trade winds. A new long-period southwest swell is expected to arrive this weekend, peaking on Saturday with surf heights near the summer average.
**Coastal Flooding:** Minor coastal flooding is possible along the shoreline and in low-lying coastal areas around the daily high tide starting Monday due to peak monthly tides.
