**India-UK Free Trade Agreement to Boost Engineering Exports to $7.5 Billion by 2030**

**COIMBATORE, July 24, 2025 (The Hindu)** – The India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is projected to significantly boost India’s engineering exports to the United Kingdom, with expectations of surging from $4.3 billion to $7.5 billion by 2030. This forecast was announced by Pankaj Chadha, Chairman of EEPC India, highlighting the immense potential unlocked by the comprehensive trade pact.

The agreement is poised to stimulate growth across various sectors, including electric machinery, industrial and construction equipment, automobile components, and iron and steel products. The elimination of tariffs, previously reaching up to 18% on key engineering products, will act as a major catalyst.

While the UK currently stands as India’s sixth-largest engineering export destination, with an 11.7% trade growth in 2024-2025, India’s exports to the UK only account for approximately 2.2% of the UK’s total engineering imports. The FTA aims to change this dynamic, forging a stronger strategic partnership.

“This strategic partnership also aligns with India’s goal of achieving $250 billion in engineering exports by 2030, positioning the UK as a key ally in this journey,” stated EEPC India in a press release.

Executive Director of EEPC India, Adhip Mitra, emphasized the transformative nature of the agreement, stating, “This agreement is not just about trade—it’s about transformation. It will drive innovation, foster technology partnerships, and support our long-term goal of sustainable and inclusive growth in engineering exports.”

EEPC India believes that this comprehensive trade pact with a major developed nation can serve as a model for future trade agreements with other partners and blocs.
