**Tamil Nadu Railway Projects Stalled by Land Acquisition Delays, Says Union Minister**

**CHENNAI, July 23, 2025** – Key infrastructure projects in Tamil Nadu are facing significant delays due to slow land acquisition, Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Responding to concerns raised by DMK MP Thamizhachi Thangapandian, the Minister stated that while approximately 24% of the necessary land has been acquired, a substantial 76% remains outstanding.

“The Government of India is geared up to execute projects, however success depends upon the support of the Government of Tamil Nadu,” Vaishnaw emphasized. He pointed out that the state government is responsible for acquiring land and determining compensation for railway projects.

Several major projects are reportedly affected, including the Tindivanam – Tiruvannamalai new line and the Attiputtu – Puttur new line.

Thangapandian had questioned the adequacy of Union government funding for land acquisition, aiming to accelerate long-delayed railway projects. The Minister clarified that significant financial resources have been allocated. “As on April 1, 2025, 15 projects…falling fully/partly in Tamil Nadu, had been sanctioned,” he stated, adding that a considerable portion of these projects have already been commissioned.

The Minister urged the Tamil Nadu government to expedite land acquisition to ensure the timely completion of these vital infrastructure projects.
